Michael Myers, a 2008 graduate of Colorado State University where he played running back and kick returner is a certified personal trainer. He is certified by the International Sports Science Association (“ISSA”); and Stott Mat Pilates. In addition to training a slate of private clients, he teaches various boot camp, strength and mat classes at two upscale gyms in West Hollywood, California.
D’Juan Woods, is a 2006 Graduate of Oklahoma State University where he played wide receiver. D’Juan went on to play in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Super Bowl winning team the New Orleans Saints. Unfortunately, D’Juan’s NFL career was cut short due to a spinal cord injury that nearly left him paralyzed. Upon his recovery, D’Juan brought his sports knowledge to the realm of personal training. D’Juan is a certified personal trainer. In addition to training a variety of private clients from accountants to celebrities, he teaches a variety of group fitness classes throughout the U.S.
Founded in 2015, Ultimate Athlete Bootcamp is a high intensity, dynamic total body workout. It is designed to push your body to its limits through exercises that give you the illusion of being an athlete on a football field. No matter what shape, size, age, race, gender or fitness level, we promote health and well-being through physical fitness. We are a tight-knit family with the common interest of helping the community reach and maintain their physical and healthy goals through the mindset of an athlete.
UAB has no less than two coaches on the field. This allows control over the camp and enough attention can be spent on the details of each exercise. If your goal is to lose weight, become lean and muscular, or just build self-confidence, UAB is the camp for you.
Their coaching consists of strength and cardio. Each exercise/drill is executed with intensity. You need mental toughness to push through the explosiveness and speed of these vigorous exercises/drills.
Michael and D’Juan, both fitness enthusiasts, wanted to bridge the gap between the athlete and the everyday person. It was then that they took their knowledge and expertise they gained from football and formulated a functional and dynamic boot camp. This boot camp will take the everyday person outside of their comfort zone. In this boot camp, the individual’s mindset will need to adapt to that of an athlete, to complete the camp. The camp is made up of fast twitches, speed and agility drills that will make the athlete feel as though they have stepped onto an NFL field.
There are benefits to training like an athlete. Coaches and sports commentators freely use the term “mental toughness” to describe the mental state of athletes who persevere through difficult sports circumstances to succeed. Mental toughness is a measure of individual resilience and confidence that may predict success in not only sports but life. The coaches of UAB constantly push the importance of “mental toughness.”
Every week I look forward to Ultimate Athlete Bootcamp on Saturday at 9am because I know it sets the tone for the rest of my week. Coach Myers and Coach Woods bring out that inner intensity that you never thought you could harness. One of the best, if not THE boot camps I have ever been a part of. I will always play for #UAB
UAB has changed my life, not just physically but mentally. No matter what obstacles and adversities may come my way, Coach Myers and Coach Woods have given me the confidence I need to overcome anything. There is nothing else like it, bar none!
I consider UAB to be more than a bootcamp, it's a mindset and community of positive like-minded people who want to live healthy fit lives.
